Tom Fogarty Jr. was ten-years-old when his father and Michael Martella began planting the Estate vineyards at Thomas Fogarty Winery in 1977.  He, along with Martella and Dr. Thomas Fogarty, have seen every aspect of the winery, and from every angle, in the almost forty years of the winery’s existence.  “As a kid I topped barrels, sanitized tanks, racked wine, cleaned hoses and did all the other cellar stuff that needs doing.  I also tagged along to learn the vineyards”.

“Tommy”, as he is known around the winery, also received a Wine Marketing certificate from Sonoma State University and an undergraduate Business degree from Saint Mary’s College.  Tommy worked at the winery as Director of Marketing for three years after graduating from college in 1991 and then left the business altogether to pursue an interest in the automotive industry, citing “family business fatigue”, among other factors, as reasons for his decision.  In 2008, his father (then seventy-five-years-old) asked Tommy and his siblings if they could “draw straws or something” to decide who would take over the business on a day-to-day basis.  Today, Tommy is the face of the highly esteemed estate known by wine lovers for their incredibly unique terroir.
